Guam - An investigation continues
into the escape of a 17-year-old from the Department of Youth Affairs facility
in Mangilao. Agency spokesperson William Castro says the preliminary findings
show that the client escaped by scaling the razor wire fence, but it's unclear
when he was left unsupervised.
Castro says the teen was attending classes at the facility and both a teacher and DYA officer were present in the room. The teen was on the run for 21 hours before he called to turn himself in.
DYA has since taken measures to prevent another escape while the investigation continues to determine if personnel were negligent in their duties.
