Guam - The management and staff of California Pizza Kitchen are hosting a weeklong fundraiser for the family of Maria Guevarra. The 24-year-old was a bartender and waitress at CPK in Tumon. She died from spinal injuries she received when a car she was riding in struck a concrete pole in Harmon earlier this month.
CPK restaurant manager Debbie Eding says Guevarra is remembered as being an outspoken and happy person. She says anyone who is interested in donating must bring the event flier to the restaurant, and 20% of their bill will go towards helping Guevarra's family and 1-year-old daughter.
"We just wanted to extend our prayers and thoughts to Maria Guevarra's family and hopefully with this interview please support her, all we need is simple fliers and dine in with us and we will be able to help the family," Eding said. The event continues through Friday.
Police continue to investigate the crash. A GMH nursing supervisor also confirms the 28-year-old man who was driving was discharged today.
