Guam Product Seal legislation up for discussion

Posted: Updated:

Guam - A pair of bills will go up for a public hearing Tuesday morning dealing with the Guam Product Seal. Bill 226 would require any package that has the word "Guam"or "Chamorro" on it to print where the product is from directly under the label; and Bill 227 establishes a Guam Product Seal Task Force under the Lieutenant Governor's Office.

The measures, introduced by Senator Judi Guthertz, hope to protect companies that make and sell actual local products, and prevent other companies from finding loopholes by manufacturing these brand products off-island and bringing it to Guam at a cheaper rate.

The hearing begins at 2:30pm Tuesday.
