DOE addressing teacher vacancies

Guam - Department of Education interim superintendent Taling Taitano says DOE and the Guam Education Board are addressing the teacher shortage in the island's public schools. She says one of the concerns the GEB brought up is that certified teachers may be applying and special contract or limited term.

"We're taking a look at enrollment and checking to see if there are excess teachers…so what we're doing is trying to find if there is an excess at another school and using that excess to fill a need at another school who might have had an increase in enrollment," she said.

Taitano says with the school year two weeks underway, it will be easier to determine if there's a need to hire additional teachers.
