Guam - A leasing program to augment the Guam Fire Department's ailing fleet of ambulances is moving forward, but it's not certain when an award will be made. According to GFD Spokesperson Joey San Nicolas the emergency procurement is still with the General Service Agency.
Officials are hopeful the procurement will be finalized next week, so they can begin the process to secure more units to help with medical transports. Once an award is made the ambulances leased from the private sector should meet all federal standards as well as pass an inspection by the EMS administrator.
To date, GFD reports four ambulances currently in operation.
