Guam - Hoping to provide some relief, governor's chief of staff Frank Arriola during a press conference late this afternoon announced a strategy he believes will augment the Guam Fire Department's fleet. "We made a policy decision to work with the GFD and EMS Commission to lease ambulances and we felt that was the best way ensure maintenance with the ambulances that way there will be no issue of capital cost to buy those ambulances and secondly to maintain it," he explained.

This option was discussed during today's informational briefing, but GFD said the EMS Commission must first approve rules and regulations governing these private transport companies. GFD said today it would also require these private vehicles meet certification requirements for GFD to operate.

Details are still being ironed out for the lease program, but Adelup hopes to lease at least five medics.
