Guam - The Police Officer Standards and Training Commission is racing against the clock to come up with a plan that would help all law enforcement agencies overcome the anticipated staffing shortage when personnel deploy with the Guam National Guard. 800 soldiers from Guam and the CNMI have been put on notice for a deployment to Afghanistan in 2013.
Guam Police Department Captain Mark Charfauros suggested the possibility of certifying reservists so that they can fill the slots left vacant by the deployment. "If we can't do it then we can't do it but I tell you we are going to be hurting extremely bad, DOC's going to have a problem, the Marshals, agriculture, everyone I see here, customs, the AG's office, once these guys deploy and it's a mass deployment then we are going to be hurting and how are we going to address our mission."
He adds the Commission is also searching for an executive director to approve and enforce rules and regulations still being developed.
