Guam - The Consolidated Commission on Utilities is scheduled to meet this evening, and among the many items on the agenda is chairman Simon Sanchez's request for discussions with the Department of Defense. Last year the Guam Waterworks Authority received authorization to begin discussions with the DOD on the transfer of Fena.
The Fiscal Year 2010 National Defense Authorization Act included a provision that would turn Fena over to the Government of Guam at a cost of an estimated $300 million that would be offset by the amounts owed to the territory for compact impact. Sanchez is hoping the CCU will authorize GWA to begin the negotiation of the transfer with the Pentagon, something officials are hopeful will come at no cost to taxpayers.
