Little League playoffs begin, rain delays again

Posted: Updated:

PRESS RELEASES - More heavy weather fell upon the 2011 Asia Pacific Little League Baseball Majors Regional Tournament and again more shuffling of the schedule to keep the games on track. Pool A completed its schedule when New Zealand hosted Australia, a game postponed yesterday due to the weather. The Kiwis managed to take the hop out of the Aussies eliminating Australia from the playoffs with the 7-5 win.

Guam had to wait later in the day to get the 8-4 win over the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) due to another rain delay. Guam was down 4-0 after four and a half innings completed, when the rains came. After another rain delay, play resumed with Guam and CNMI going nine innings when Guam's Xavier Reyes went deep for the three run home run against CNMI's Nathan Camacho to tie the game at 4-4. It wasn't until the ninth, when Guam's Carl Jaminila jacked a three run home run to left, bringing in the winning runs.

Guam then went into playoff mode and faced Taiwan. Ying Chih Hao led the Taiwan offense for the 12-2 win after five, due to the ten run rule. Taiwan is in the Championship Game but will have to wait till the conclusion of the Korea-Thailand game that was delayed due to rain. Play will resume tomorrow, Friday, July 15, 2011 at 8:30 a.m., at the top of the third, Korea leading 4-0.
