Guam - TakeCare Insurance's Wellness Group will introduce the Children's Health Improvement Program (CHIP), family-based weight management program for children and adolescents 6 through 17 years old to its members. The first CHIP class will take place at the new TakeCare Wellness Center in Tamuning, every Saturday starting this Saturday, June 25 through July 30, from 10am to noon.
According to a study done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 16.9% of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years are obese. Among preschool children aged 2-5, obesity increased from 5.0% to 10.4% between 1976-1980 and 2007-2008 and from 6.5% to 19.6% among those aged 6-11.
Adolescents aged 12-19 showed an increase in obesity form 5.0% to 18.1% during the same period.
