Guam - 24 students attending Central Washington University are here on island conducting summer camps around the island. Some of the students were at the Astumbo Gym helping with the Dededo Mayor's Office.
The camp is being held Monday through Friday from 8:30-9:30am in the morning. teaching kids goal setting, how to stay fit and proper nutrition. Today's session of the camp was to teach the kids how to deal with stress and their emotions. The kids were also taught how to set goals, stay fit and proper nutrition.
"It's been pretty fun and it's been pretty successful," said CWU's Micah Rowe. "it was a bit frustrating at first because we didn't know how many kids we would have and the age range but we adapted our lessons to kind of meet the needs of the camp. We have been trying to inspire them to making healthy choices. You know we are just doing the best we can to inspire them and to physical activity and healthy choices because that's really very important."
Today's session of the camp was to teach the kids how to deal with stress and their emotions. The instructors have been having a good time with the kids and said that the hospitality has been great, something they haven't experienced before.
Student Scott Power added, "The stay has been great; the people here have been amazing everyone is so nice. We've been invited to graduation parties and it's just crazy it's not like in the states. In the states if you're walking down the street someone wouldn't say hi how are you doing and here everyone is very nice and welcoming and they are all trying to make us have the best time possible. Our professor is from Guam, so that's how we got here and it's just been great."
