Guam - 33-year-old Estanislao Babauta Matagolai was arrested after he allegedly called victims claiming to be a family member and asking them for monetary donations to help with travel and funeral expenses for his child who he claims died back in the mainland. Police say one victim made a complaint at the Hagatna Precinct after donating nearly one $1,000.

Matagolai was charged with four counts of theft by deception and four counts of criminal impersonation. The Guam Police Department notes Matagolai may be connected to similar stories criminal investigators have heard about. Police are urging anyone who may have been a victim of this scam to contact the Criminal Investigations Section immediately.
