Guam - Island Rotarians got the latest weather update from guest speaker chief meteorologist Chip Guard from the National Weather Service. Guard gave an overview of past and present weather patterns on Guam.
He explained that the region's weather has been in a neutral state and says the calm weather may be coming to an end. "Looks like we are coming out of this La Nina pattern, which has caused the typhoon pattern to be near the west of us; it looks we are going into a more normal period which means storms could start up near Chuuk and down by Pohnpei later on in the season," he said.
Guard says they should have a better idea by July how the typhoon season will shape up and whether or not we will enter another El Nino or El Nina period. But he reminds everyone to stay prepared and have an emergency plan ready.
