Appointment for Customs director expires

Guam - The appointment for Customs and Quarantine Acting Director Ralph Sgambelluri has expired. In fact, his 90 days were up one month ago, as Governor Eddie Calvo appointed him to the acting position on January 4.

So just how is he able to remain at the helm? Governor's Deputy Press Secretary Phill Leon Guerrero says Guam law allowed for Sgamberlluri, whom he says is senior ranking at the agency, to be placed as the agency's deputy director following the expiration of the 90 days. Leon Guerrero says Sgambelluri in turn would again become acting director, since the position is currently vacant.

Although Leon Guerrero could not say when a new appointment would be made, he says they are working to find a permanent head for the agency.
