Guam - Allan Guzman and Derek Padrones got the night underway for PXC 23 at the Marriott Hotel. Guzman and Padrones went the distance in the first amateur bought of the night showing their hands in the 3rd round after both fighters played the clinch game for the first 2 rounds. Derek Padrones earned the win by decision after landing more punches and controlling the fight on the ground.
Peter Salas and John Borja met up in the only heavyweight fight of the night. Both fighters came out throwing leg kicks, Salas with the nice takedown in the exchange. After a reversal, Salas was able to regain control and take the back of Borja and secure the rear naked choke forcing John Salas to tap in the first round.
In one of the featured fights of the night Spike 22's Ricky Camp squared of against Underworld Extremes Scotty Eclavea. Camp showed good take down defense as Eclavea worked hard for the takedown. Ricky landed some knees from the clinch and got the takedown, working from side control. First round going to Camp for the big finish. The 2nd round started back up top with Ricky using his boxing background to work his way inside. After the bell Ricky Camp went to his corner winning the first 2 rounds convincingly.
With the 3rd round getting underway Scotty had to pull something off for the win, either a knockout or submission. Camp threw soft forward leg kick and got sucked in when Eclavea went for the takedown, getting his back as they went to the ground. Scotty Eclavea got the win by submission pulling off the rear naked choke.
Chad Scholing looked very impressive in his fight against Elery Fonseca. Scholing coming off a loss showed that he trained hard for the fight and brushed up on his ground game dominating the fight once he got out of a guillotine attempt. Chad worked the cage and eventually got mount raining down with punches. The fight was called by referee stoppage.
Ricky Gomez and Jon Jesus gave fans a fight. Gomez Letting his hands go in his debut trying to finish the fight early. Jon Jesus weathered the storm and tried to sink in the rear naked choke. Nice execution by Jesus but Gomez able to fight it off and survive the round. After an exchange and quick clinch Gomez claimed to have injured his shoulder and tapped, losing the fight by verbal submission.
Underworld Extreme's Mklane Alfred went to work on Eric Reyes. Reyes started the round off landing from up top looking calm, picking his shots. Mklane covered up as Reyes threw and shot in for the takedown. Eric tried to throw Alfred off and stand back up but Alfred quickly went for the submission and pulled off the win via rear naked choke.
Mikey Taitano proved to be the more experienced fighter in his fight against against Chris Borja. Taitano pressed the action and was able to keep Borja against the cage and land some knees. Mikey worked position and landed a couple of shots as he worked his way to get Chris's back. Taitano drops some staples and gets Borja to tap in round 1.
Spike 22's Elliot Untalan made quick work of Paul Muna at a 144-pounds. Untalan used his reach to soften Muna up and work his way inside. Elliot landed a solid right that slipped in and rocked Muna. Once the fight went to the ground Elliot Untalan rained down with shots forcing the referee to call a stop to the fight in the first round.
In the main event fight of PXC 23 Spike 22's Kyle Aguon and Underworld Extreme's Trevin Jones went to work for a chance to secure the #1 contender spot in the 140-pound weight division. Both fighters kept the fight on their feet with Aguon showing some good takedown defense working from the clinch. Kyle worked the jab to keep Trevin guessing and keep the distance. Jones attempted several takedowns and wasn't successful until the 2nd round when Kyle threw a leg kick and left himself open.
Trevin landed a couple of staples but Kyle was able to ride up along the cage and get back to his feet. Jones landed some leg kicks followed by a flurry of punches and ended round 2 with good defense as Aguon went in for the shoot. The 3rd and final round saw Aguon go in for a couple of early takedowns but was unsuccessful. Trevin Jones secured the win late in the 3rd with another takedown, earning the #1 contender spot in the 140-pound division putting him in the spotlight for a title shot.
