Guam - Visiting senators Jim Webb and Carl Levin hosted a dinner for Governor Eddie Calvo last night. The island's chief executive discussed at length several issues related to the military buildup including the unfair treatment of local businesses in contract awards and issues involving the China-Russia waiver program. He also gave the two senators a heads up that Guam is seeking political self-determination.

He said, "I told them why it's so important that our people - this is something from the Executive Branch, the Legislature Branch and all the people of Guam we are moving forward in our political self determination whether that is in full incorporation into the United States political system or forming our own independent political system. We want them to be aware of this drive so that those policy makers can overlay Guam's desires with what the United States' long-term aims and plans are in this part of the world."

The two U.S. senators spent one day on Guam as opposed to last week's delegation of 15 senators who gassed their plane at Andersen Air Force Base and split.
