Guam - A George Washington High School sophomore has been suspended for allegedly pouring muriatic acid into a trash can in the boys restroom at the Mangilao campus. The incident happened last Friday afternoon and a student was inside the restroom washing his hands when the explosion happened.

According to Department of Education deputy superintendent Arlene Unpingco, no one was injured and school officials were able to locate the student responsible. An investigation is underway to determine how the student was able to access the acid that came from a janitor's cart and whether it was mixed with any other substance.

Unpingco says the sophomore was suspended but the Disciplinary Advisory Council will review the matter and make a recommendation to the superintendent who will decide if the student should be expelled.
