Guam - An internal investigation is underway at the Department of Corrections after two correctional officers suffered first- and second-degree burns this week. Inmate Ermino Jack is accused of grabbing a cup of water, heating it in a microwave of the Post 6 Day Room and throwing it on the officers after being denied to make a phone call.

DepCor director Jose San Agustin says one officer received burns from his face down to his stomach area, and continues to undergo medical checkups, while the other officer received minor burns, scratches and bruises.

San Agustin says Jack remains under close watch at the prison's Post 2 unit, segregated from the population. The Guam Police is also conducting a separate investigation, as jack may face additional criminal charges.

In the meantime, San Agustin says this inmate is known to be aggressive. He says the officers let their guard down, adding that he has to remind them how they should respond when dealing with the population.
