Guam - The Guam Fire Department is investigating a house fire that occurred in Yigo early this morning. The fire happened inside a home along Chalan Dukduk in the northern village.
Fortunately the occupants were not home, but according to GFD spokesperson Captain Andy Arceo had they been it could have been a different story. He admits fire trucks in Yigo and Dededo have been down in need of service, and firefighters first on scene this morning actually had to wait for engine units to arrive from the Astumbo and Tamuning stations.
"On the engine from Yigo, it's a power steering issue and the problem with those trucks they are specialized vehicles not like a regular car, power steering could just be the belt or fluid but this one its complex items," Arceo said.
Yigo mayor Bob Lizama says the damage to the home could have been less severe if GFD maintained its fleet. In the meantime, Arceo says the parts are expected to arrive within the coming weeks.
