Guam - Governor's chief of staff Frank Arriola announced today that Battalion Fire Chief Mike Aguon has been chosen to serve as the acting chief of the Guam Fire Department. Arriola added that a decision will be made at a later time as to whether his appointment will be sent to the Guam Legislature for confirmation.
"We're currently tapping him as the interim chief until we determine our course of action so he'll be there in an interim capacity for 90 days," Arriola told KUAM News.
Aguon takes over in the midst of the controversy surrounding the appointment of John Salas to the position. His nomination expired today. Lawmakers did not vote on his confirmation but sent it back to committee, which basically killed the appointment.
Several senators on session floor questioned whether he could lead the department instead of being led by his staff.
