Guam - The appointment of John Salas to serve as the chief of the Guam Fire Department heads back to committee as senators questioned his ability to lead. Senator Tom Ada said, "I cannot agree to vote to confirm an individual who really has not vision of where he's taking this department with what little resources he has a department that's charged to provide public safety services in our community."

Senator Adolpho Palacios said, "Here we are talking about a man the persons that's going to take the helm and lead the department not to be led. By members of the department but himself to lead the department."

If lawmakers do not vote on Salas' confirmation by Sunday, it in effect is dead, because his appointment expires Monday. This means the governor would have to submit another appointment.
