Is GBME a functioning board?

Guam - There are concerns that Governor Eddie Calvo's decision to relieve all of the current members of the Guam Board of Medical Examiners has resulted in a non-functioning board. With no board in place, there isn't a body to take up complaints of medical malpractice or to license physicians.

The 31st Guam Legislature has only reported two nominations out of committee while a confirmation hearing for nominee, Dr. Reynald Lim, is scheduled for next week. Last week the Governor's Office announced other nominations of Dr. Joan Gill and Dr. Kia Rahmani.

The Legislative Healthcare Committee has yet to receive those nominations and is seeking clarification on whether the governor will amend his letter to have the members continue to serve until a confirmed board is in place.
