Guam - Authorities apprehended the two Department of Youth Affairs clients that escaped from the Mangilao facility late Monday afternoon. Efforts made by the Guam Police Department's Juvenile Investigation Section, Patrol Division and the DYA tracking team caught the pair at 8:05pm. DYA officials state a tip from helpful citizens resulted in the capture of the two who were found in an area adjacent to the Star Building in Harmon.

The two had escaped through an open fence area at the facility while conducting work detail. DYA director Adonis Mendiola says an internal investigation is ongoing, as the pair was able to escape due to a lack of supervision. The two males, 17 and 18, were said to be non-violent and were detained on criminal charges related to drug and alcohol abuse.

The two were taken back to the youth facility and will continue drug and alcohol treatment as well as answer to the Juvenile Drug Court for their actions as it pertains to the escape.
