Guam - Recognizing those in the community that have disabilities, Governor Eddie Calvo today declared March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. Guam Developmental Disabilities Council 2nd vice chairperson Raymond Salas says while 60% of individuals with disabilities are unemployed, they have made major strides to improving the service of care on island.

"Parents are no longer pressured to send their children away to institutions; people with developmental disabilities can be reliable workers meeting or exceeding expectations and standards, they are leading richer and more fulfilling lives but there are still challenges," he told KUAM News.

An Array of Activities, Conferences and training will also be held throughout the month. Governor Calvo also declared this afternoon, March as Guam Girl Scouts Month.
