Guam - The Guam Fire Department is hoping to get several more ambulances back on the streets in the coming days. Approximately $200,000 was released today from the Department of Public Works' Public Safety Highway Bond to pay for the ambulance repairs. The funding will be used to repair eight units, which currently need tire and engine repairs.
The funds could not be spent until a memorandum of understanding was executed between DPW and GFD. Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio has been working to fix the situation even walking the MOU to DPW, DOA, and the AG's Office for final signatures.
Six ambulances are expected to be operational within days, and up to ten ambulances will be fully functional after the repairs are made.
