True Grit Rugby brings out top talent

by Dave Delgado

Guam - The 2011 True Grit Rugby Tournament is scheduled for this weekend at the Wettengel Rugby Field in Dededo. On Saturday and Sunday the island's best rugby players will hit the field for a chance at winning this year's title along with a shot at making it on the men's and women's national seven's team. The Kurumi Club from Japan will take part in the tournament, as other off island teams that usually compete won't make the trip this year due to flight problems and other obstacles.

GRFU President Stephen Grantham says that any athlete looking to represent Guam at this year's Pacific Games must have been born on Guam or has lived on island for at least 5 years and has played rugby before. Those players who have been identified, as potential candidates must commit to an intensive training program in order to get into playing condition.

Team Guam will face some of the best teams in the world such as Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.
