Guam - Retirees of the local government gave a big collective Si Yu'us Ma'ase to Governor Eddie Calvo for signing Bill 492 into law today. The legislation mandates the distribution of additional cost of living allowance award payments for certificates of claim issued, and authorizes the sale of general obligation promissory notes for payments to COLA awardees.

Governor Calvo signed the measure into law in an effort to put an end to the retirees' plight. Gloria Nelson is the president of a non-profit organization representing retirees and survivors, and told KUAM News, "More are gone than there are left. Our man'amko are very frail and sensitive. All of us have gone through many negative experiences in the past; dealing with the COLA issue we just want to do what is best for our people."

The measure was introduced by Senator Ben Pangelinan who says he is pleased that the governor continued his commitment to pay off the judgment.
