Group to create Guam Building Code Council

by Sabrina Salas Matanane

Guam - A task force formed to create the guidelines for the creation of the Guam Building Council has completed its mission and has led to the introduction of Bill 18. The council will be comprised of nine representatives from DPW, GFD, local architects, engineers, contractors, real estate professional and members of the public.

The council will be at the minimum once every three months, their terms are for five years, and appointments will be made by the governor who will select from a list of nominees provided by local professional organizations.

The council will serve to review and adopt future updates to Guam's building and fire codes as well as have a dual role as a Board of Appeals for industry disputes.
