Over 60 hit the surf at Boat Basin

Guam - The Surf the Basin II Surfing and Body-boarding contest took place at the Agana Boat Basin. Guahan Napu, Inc. teamed up with Monster Energy Drink to host the contest, which is one of many qualifiers to come in preparation for the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia.

Gavin Gaminde from Monster Energy Drink said of the event, "This is the 2nd annual one down here at Boat Basin and we have about 60 participants out here. There are 4 divisions, men's short-board, and men's body-board, long-board and then we have a junior division. All of them are going to run today and the conditions are pretty good they're about 2 to 3 foot really good conditions.

"We 60 participants and I think this is the first of a series of qualifiers for the Pacific Games so we are looking at getting a couple of people out there to New Caledonia. We have a few sponsors that we would like to thank definitely Monster Energy Drink, Guahan Napu, GTA, DNA Evolution, Chili's and everyone who came out and supported."
