Guam - The 2nd Annual Surf The Basin Surfing and Body-Boarding Contest takes place this Saturday at the Hagatna Boat Basin. Showtime for the event is at 6:30am with go-time at 7. The event is sponsored by Guahan Napu and Monster Energy Drink with registration for the competition from 5-8pm tomorrow night at the Laguna Association pavilion near Boat Basin.

"Hopefully we'll have good surf conditions," said event coordinator Willie Byerly. "Right now, it looks like small waves but the Isa in their book always say you can never have perfect surf, if you do you're lucky. So this will go on to the Rick's Classic 4 next year January 23, we will short list down to 10 surfers, 5 longboarders and then we will have a follow up contest with a short list for the Pacific Games, which will be based on points. So everybody has to enter and if they miss any of the contests that will lower their point spread."

All participants looking to qualify for the team heading to New Caledonia for the Pacific Games.
