San Miguel League tips-off on Saturday

Guam - The 2010 San Miguel Basketball League opening ceremony will be held this Saturday at the UOG Field House. This year's league will feature both an open and masters division with 20 total teams hitting the court for competition. The San Miguel League was formed to celebrate the Philippines #1 sport, which is basketball here on island and to bring the community together for a weekend of basketball.

League commissioner Alfred Flores said, "This is the big sport in the Philippines and most of the Filipinos play basketball and there will be no problem to play in this league as long as you have Filipino descent. It will commence on Saturday October 2nd, opening ceremonies will be at 2:00 pm there will be 20 teams vying for titles. 16 from the open and 4 from the masters, everybody will be playing on that day. We will be using 3 courts so you need to be there, guaranteed that everybody all the teams will get to play."

Fans can expect another season of great games at the Yigo Gym with all of the games being played at the gym on Saturdays and Sundays. This Saturday teams from around the league will get to see their competition first hand when all the teams take to the court Saturday starting at 2:00 pm in the afternoon at the Field House. The games will count as regular season games so the players will be gunning to get their first wins.

"The regular season starts on that day to; we're going to use 3 courts with 16 teams from the open and 4 from the masters and right after that on Sunday the games will be held in Yigo from 2:00 pm all the way to 8:00pm," Flores added.

    Nearly a dozen guns, glass pipes and marijuana. GPD investigators finding those items during a raid in Mangilao on Thursday. 65 year old Jesus San Agustin and 27 year old Jessiree Dolores Meno are charged with theft by receiving stolen property. San Agustin is also charged with illegally possessing drugs and firearms. Police say the search warrant was executed as authorities were looking into a burglary investigation.
