Guam - The Guam Developmental Disabilities Council met today at the Holiday Resort in Tumon for its regular meeting. Executive Director Manny Cruz says officials recently came back from a conference regarding the status of the association. He says the Council would like to address issues as part of a five-year state plan.

He says there are three major areas of emphasis he would like improvements on: employment, education and health care. "A lot of our consumers and stakeholders are having problems with getting people with disabilities, getting them a job, a lot of kids with disabilities not being properly educated and of course we have major financial issues with the department of public health and social services," she said.

He says the island needs better services for those with disabilities, especially in light of the military buildup.
