Tiyan land exchange bill passed

Guam - This afternoon heirs to landowners in Tiyan rejoiced as Acting Governor Mike Cruz signed into law Bill 278.  The law will provide compensation or a land exchange for Tiyan landowners whose property was taken for the airport expansion with land at the old Federal Aviation Administration at Marbo Sea Command.

Cruz called the measure long overdue.  Benny Crawford headed the effort to get the legislation passed, and while he wasn't in attendance at the signing, he did call in from Las Vegas to express his gratitude.

Longtime supporter of the measure Tony Lamorena said, "Last year there were two surviving landowners - one of them was my mother and she passed away last year, so really the only thing left are heirs.  We want to thank the Legislature and you governor for finally giving us what is our justice."
