Guam - Japan is being asked to shoulder hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure costs to transfer U.S. Marines from Okinawa to Guam. The Kyodo News Agency is reporting that Defense Secretary Robert Gates asked Tokyo to pick up additional costs in addition to the more than $6 billion Japan agreed to pay in 2006.
The U.S. reportedly is claiming that expenses to develop facilities for electricity, water and sewage will cost more than expected. Japan is expected to response to the request after the July 11th House of Councilors Election.
