Philippine independence mass in Hagatna

Guam - The island's Filipino community will gather at the Cathedral Basilica in Hagatna this afternoon to celebrate Philippine Independence Day. Earlier this morning a flag raising ceremony was held to jumpstart festivities. In addition, a wreath laying ceremony was held later in the afternoon at the Asan Memorial Park.

The Philippine Declaration of Independence proclaimed the independence of the Philippine Islands from the colonial rule of Spain.
