PI native named CNN's Hero of the Year

by Mindy Aguon

Guam - At the young age of 16, Efren Penaflorida had a dream: offering education as an alternative to street gangs in the Philippines.  Penaflorida founded the Dynamic Teen Company and began a push cart classroom in Cavite City.  Penaflorida was recognized for helping change the world being named CNN's 2009 Hero of the Year.

With a simple push car with a built in blackboard, learning materials and a play center for kids, Penaflorida is bringing change - something he says everyone can do.  "Each one has a hidden hero within that every day people even ordinary people can make a small yet significant difference in every life that they may cross paths with so that hero inside them is just waiting to be unleashed," he told KUAM News.

Penaflorida says people should serve others above yourselves and be happy to serve.  To learn more about the organization or to learn how you can get involved in changing the world, log onto DynamicTeenCompany.org.
