Guam Filipinos to celebrate independence

by Nick Delgado

Guam - Acting Governor Mike Cruz signed a proclamation today declaring the month of June as Philippine Independence Month. The month will recognize Guam's Filipinos as they make up more than 25% of Guam's residents. It also honors all Filipinos who worked hard to get to where they are today as they celebrate the 112th anniversary of their independence.

Kerwin Tate, Philippine Consul General of Guam, told KUAM News, "This year's theme is 'Freedom Being the Fruits of Valor or Courage or Greatness and Honor', and that is what the Philippines is celebrating this year for the anniversary of Philippine independence."

The Philippine Consul General's Office will also be hosting several events throughout the month.
