Guam - With Memorial Day around the corner, Guam Veterans Affairs Office administrator Fred Gofigan is tackling the job of sprucing up Veterans Cemetery with his own hands. Today Gofigan spent time waterblasting the concrete and says he is waiting on a contract to repaint the crypts.
He says he would normally have had more help, but the recent murder at the Department of Corrections left him shorthanded, telling KUAM News, "One of the challenges was DOC was supposed to be here, but they will be here on Friday to try and catch-up." He added that the crew was supposed to have been helping by Monday and the week before, saying, "but because of what transpired everything was on hold."
He says they will continue the work through the weekend. Gofigan says the public can help the effort by refraining from mounting anything on the crypts and asks that those who have come and remove the items in order to assure the cemetery is in tip-top shape by next Monday.
