Furloughs, summer school on DOE's agenda

by Michele Catahay

Guam - The Guam Education Policy Board will be meeting this week to talk about a number of things. According to Chairman Ron Ayuyu, the board is expected to discuss teacher furloughs and the summer school program. It was a close call for the Department of Education as summer school was going to be called off.

It was last week when Adelup found the funds to ensure its back on for students. Also on the agenda is the possibility of allowing a parent representative to sit on the board.  Said Ayuyu, "It's almost a year or two years that a parent has come in and represented the island of Guam. And Mrs. Gutierrez one of the board members had a concern about that at the last board meeting that we need to discuss on that and we're willing and ready to get somebody to represent the island."

The meeting gets underway this Wednesday beginning at 6pm at the DOE Conference Room in Hagatna.
