Guam - Today marked the first day on the job for Dr. Andrea Leitheiser, who left the Department of Mental Health to work for the Department of Corrections.  DepCor was hoping to bring on board a certified psychologist to treat inmates in their custody.

It would also address the consent decree signed with the Justice Department several years ago.  "This is the last piece of the puzzle for DOC as it closes out the consent order or the stipulated order. She'll be dealing and treating individuals that have been identified to be suffering from some kind of mental defect, and will be drawing up our policies as far as maintenance care as it relates to prisoners," she said.

DOC was also looking into suggestions of possibly designating a housing unit strictly for individuals with mental illness or mental defect.
