Senator: focus on policy, not name changes

Guam - Senator Judi Guthertz is challenging Governor Felix Camacho to concentrate his ten remaining months in office on establishing a new and improved political status as his legacy. Guthertz suggested that Camacho convene the Commission on Decolonization and the Guam First Commission to address the issue of Guam's political status.

"There's absolutely no reason the governor cannot raise and push forward Guam's political status quest to really make a difference for the territory and the people of Guam; the idea of changing the name back to a traditional name, an ancient name, that's fine, its symbolic but it will not result in substantive improvements in the quality of life for the people of Guam," she said.

Governor Camacho during his State of the Island Address stated that he wants to leave his legacy by changing the island's name from Guam to "Guahan".
