Guam - Military Buildup Committee Chair Senator Judi Guthertz has some serious concerns when it comes to the island being home to a dozen Army joint high speed vessels. The U.S. Army is considering several locations, including Guam, to host the vessels that are designed to support the rapid transport of soldiers and equipment in the United States and abroad.
Guthertz is concerned that these ships and crew, support staff and dependants will not be absorbed smoothly into Guam. "We need to know what the connections are between the planned military buildup and this other initiative and find out if there are other initiatives that are not in the DEIS that are going to pop up and require another evaluation," she said.
Guthertz also wants to know why this project was not included within the Joint Guam Program Office and the Draft Environmental Impact Statement.
