Guam - Chairman of the Legislative Committee on Finance, Senator Ben Pangelinan, has sent a letter to Guam Fire Department Chief Dave Peredo raising concern about the major renovations occurring at the agency's headquarters. GFD is renovating its HQ in the DNA Building in Hagatna in an effort to consolidate office space and eventually save on its lease expenses.
However, Pangelinan questions the upgrades the department is conducting in a building that the Government of Guam does not own. "We are concerned about the rank-and-file and the state of the fire stations in the villages, and I think those are more effective in terms of fixing those up to get better response and better service from the men in the field. I think that's what fire fighting's all about and fire protections all about, it's about the men in the field responding to the needs in the public; not the guys in the offices," he said.
GFD says is it hoping to save at least $50,000 from conducting these renovations.
