Guam - A ceremony celebrating the naturalization of America's forty-nine newest citizens was held this morning at the District Court. Keynote speaker Samuel Lai shared the story of his own family's pursuit of the American dream.
His mother, the late Shirley Lai, was born in Communist China and came to Guam in the 70's. She would go on to start one of the island's most successful family-run businesses, Shirley's Coffee Shop. "I hope our family's story, an American dream, has inspired you, that is as long as you work hard and believe in the American dream anything is very much possible. Maybe today is the beginning of your American dream," he announced.
The men and women who became citizens today came from across the globe, including India, Zambia, the United Kingdom, Palau, Singapore and Thailand.
