Guam - Students at Wettengel Elementary School were sent home at noon today after the campus experienced some severe sewage backup.  Acting Principal Johansen Punongbayan says school buses and parents were called to pick up the students after the sewage problem caused a foul smell at the Dededo campus.

"We contacted the appropriate people to give us guidance, and when we saw that classrooms in the kinder wing was overflowing with the sewage then we just decided to shut down the school," he explained.

Guam Waterworks Authority crews were at the campus today pumping the sewage line. Spokesperson Heidi Ballendorf says the problem was a back up on the main sewer line outside of the school.

In the meantime, there's still no word if Wettengel students will have school tomorrow.
