Ethics rules adopted from 25th Legislature

The Legislative Ethics Committee adopted interim rules and regulations recently discovered from the 25th Guam Legislature's ethics committee.  In the meantime, Senator Judi Guthertz says she is seeking interested attorneys to review the interim rules to allow the committee to proceed with complaints made to the panel.

Neither Attorney Tom Fisher nor majority Legal Counsel Therese Terlaje will be allowed to provide legal assistance to the committee.

Senator Rory Respicio, in the meantime, who was tapped to fill in as the replacement for Senator B.J. Cruz, has proposed that the rules be put into the standing rules so future legislatures won't have the same problem.  Respicio said, "They've kind of been addressing the rules to which they have to adopt and other operational matters to get them started. But I want to assist this committee and now I could as a member get to a point where all we have to do is just address the complaints before that body and nothing else."

The committee will meet again next week Monday at noon to appoint its legal counsel.
