The Umang Dam marks the 122nd site on Guam to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The Dam was built in the early 1920's, mainly for agricultural purposes.  It was instrumental in the livelihood of the people of Agat. 
 
The agricultural significance continued during World War II under the Japanese occupation. This is also the fifth site in Agat included in the National Register.
