Dededo shooter held on $500,000 bail

32-year-old Edward Joseph San Agustin remains behind bars after assaulting and shooting a woman at Siu's Jewelry Shop in Dededo on Monday. The Dededo man, who had four outstanding warrants of arrest, has had a run in with the law almost every year since 2005 for robbery, theft assault, family violence and retail theft. Yesterday San Agustin fled the jewelry store in a green Ford Taurus, but didn't make it very far as he crashed into another car along Harmon Loop Road.

His car careened over the sidewalk and crashed into a parked pickup truck at the Compadres Mall. Police say San Agustin then took his gun and fled on foot into the neighborhoods behind the mall. CID and SWAT agents and patrol officers conducted a man hunt for nearly an hour and found him hiding near a home along VSM Benavente Street. Police also located the gun San Agustin tossed during the pursuit as well as the jewelry he stole from the robbery.

CID agents are still investigating whether San Agustin is linked to other armed robberies reported in recent weeks. San Agustin was arrested on Monday night on a slew of charges to include attempted murder, robbery, reckless conduct, eluding police officers, destruction of evidence, and possession and use of a firearm without a firearms ID. He remains behind bars on $500,000 cash bail.

The 51-year-old shooting victim is listed in stable condition at the Guam Memorial Hospital.
