Island Mayors Want Authority to Proclaim Village Carnivals

Posted: Updated:
Island mayors want the authority to sponsor village events like fiestas and village carnivals. In fact the mayors council is pushing to get legislation introduced to give them that power. Mayors council of guam executive director Angel Sablan says, "Well right now the governor has to proclaim an event in a village and what the mayors are asking for is the authority to proclaim it themselves with the municipal planning councils so that it will give them authority to make these events happen not just for the weekend but probably for two weeks or even a whole month." Sablan adds that they want mayors to be able to decide whether they want events that will feature games of skill or even games of chance.
