"Yours, Mine & Ours"
by Sonya Artero

Yours, Mine & Ours is a remake of the 1968 film that starred Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball. Forward to nearly 40 years later, this comedy is about much of the same. It pokes fun at what it's like to have an oversized family, which in this version takes the cake with a family of 20.

The movie stars the handsome Dennis Quaid who plays U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Frank Beardsley who runs a tight ship both at work as well as at home as a father of 8 children. It also stars the lovely Renee Russo who plays Helen North, a widow of 10, 4 of her own and 6 adopted. After both of them tragically lose their spouses, the high school sweethearts rekindle their crushes at their annual reunion where they fall madly in love and get hitched all at once.

This...despite the fact they each have supersized families.

Although it's rather brief, the movie actually mentions Guam, so make sure you pay close attention.

The plot of the movie centers around the two sets of children who secretly plot to purposely sour their parent's relationship in order to go back to their separate family lives. Without giving away the best parts of the movie, all I will say is that their plan backfires when through their evil plotting, they learn that not only can they get along, but more importantly, they discover that more of a family is better than less.

Although youngsters will more than likely laugh their heads-off each time Quaid falls face first into various puddles of mess, grown ups will think its passe and grow tired of the same old wacky scenes and laugh lines. I did honestly find myself bored with the whole oversized family plot, with all the fights they get in and the big messes they make.

Still, as an overall family movie, it was good for a few laughs and the acting between Russo and Quaid was decent. As such, kids or families with younger kids will definitely enjoy the movie, much more than couples.
